I have stumbled upon an article on DesignTaxi.com, "Haunting Portraits Of The Homeless". These pictures are indeed quite haunting - many of these characters almost seem like they come from a scary movie (I think the first portrait looks like a character from Lord of the Rings!), or they look like they're people on their death beds from a third-world country.
The dark exposures of these photographs really drew me in - the lighting were just enough to capture the details on their faces. Every highlight and shadow seems to tell the story of the hardships that they have endured.
The little blurb on the webpage wrote about this Manchester-based photographer's approach to his portraits of homeless people. He used to be a sports photographer, but with photographing the homeless now, he has makes an effort to get to know each of his subjects before asking to take their pictures.
